Day 28: Over Halfway Done!!!

That's right, I'm now on the middle day of the challenge! However, I realized that I have a ton of dresses that I normally go out dancing in that I haven't worn yet. So, over the next 4 weeks, you may see a good chunk of them on some weird days. I figure I'll dedicate both Saturday and Sunday to wearing them. Some of them you may recognize because I've worn some out already but they have not been documented. Exhibit A is my dress for today. I actually wore this out to go see Rural Alberta Advantage but because it isn't documented it doesn't count. Such a bummer right now. I'm out of red dresses which sucks but I figure my nails are at least painted red. Why? Because it's GAME DAY!!! Anyways, I'm off to grab some breakfast then go cheer on the Canadian team along with the rest of the country. I'd like to say I'm extremely proud of all our Canadian athletes and I think we definitely made this one hell of a memorable Olympics!

Day 27: If New Year's Eve Was A Dress...

I decided today that if New Year's Eve was a dress, it would be this one in my closet. It's just so over the top with polka dots and sparkles that I can't help but smile when I look at it. So although it's not my favourite, I decided that it reminds me of New Year's Eve for some reason. No, I have not worn it during at December 31 celebrations. Just more of my strange logic I suppose!
Oh, and don't mind the wet hair pulled back. I got super lazy hopping out of the shower and didn't feel like drying it before I took the photo.

Today I'm running behind schedule and need to leave the house pretty much right now. So it's off to the races for me! By that I mean work and then doing an Olympic day at Monterey School. Have a fun Friday!

Day 25: Check Your Martlet!

Hey guys! Check the Martlet today! I don't know what page I'm on but I'm in there. I still feel narcissistic advertising this fact but that's okay. It's all for a good cause right? Well, February is almost done and at the end of it I'm past the halfway mark. This means that I still have some of my most ridiculous dresses to wear left for March. Oh boy. Well, it's a beautiful day out and I've got some homework to do so I'm off to the library! Catch ya on the flip side!

Day 24: Another LOOONG Wednesday

Although you can't see it in this photo very well, this dress is pretty much backless. It's kind of awkward to wear it out at any time but it has a more work appropriate neckline so I'm busting out the white blazer for today and hoping that nobody asks to see the whole dress at any point. Fingers crossed. Look for me in the new Martlet coming out either today or tomorrow! I'm off to a meeting!

Day 23: Last Week from Hell... Hopefully...

I woke up this morning freezing. Turns out our nice weather has disappeared for the time being. However, if any of you are like me you know this may be a blessing in disguise. As soon as it's nice out I have a tendency of taking a life's too short to spend life inside perspective. Therefore, less gets done and I just end up more stressed than usual. On the flipside, I am wearing dresses every day and am almost out of sweater dresses. I continue to layer with my other sweaters but it's hard to do that with some dresses. I'm just hoping that our nice weather returns after this week!

Day 22: Back to School

Reading break is done but the challenge continues. Look for me in this week's Martlet. I'll let you know which page I'm on when I know! I'm desperately trying to keep rested and relaxed this morning but I meant to be out of the house to talk to my boss at 8:30. I suppose that's a bit of a fail. Oh well, such is life. Anyways, the sun is shining, flowers are blooming, I'm off to grab some coffee and enjoy life a little!

Day 21: Get Your Game Face On Canada!

I'm busting out the red today to show some support for the big game. Canada vs. USA. This should definitely be an intense one. Might be an interesting day as well given the fact that I may be watching it with a group of guys from high school that I've never really hung out with. How did that come about? Well, I have nobody else to watch the game with because everyone is over on the mainland and I could either watch it at home and do homework at intermissions or get some sun and watch the game with other people. I'm assuming I'm not the only one who has changed since high school. This could be an interesting and fun time. Worst case scenario I'm bored by their company and I'm watching a solid game of hockey anyways. Either way, life will be good on the last day of reading break!

Day 20: No Extra Hands

It's a beautiful day out and I plan on spending a chunk of it either in the library or baking a pie... Oh joy... Perhaps it'll be more of a walk down to the beach kind of a day. Regardless, I figured I would dress all animal-like for heading out. Perhaps someone will see part of the dress and think that I'm a zebra... Oh goodness, I really do need my first cup of coffee. What I'm writing sounds ridiculous... Just thought I would keep you all posted, although I'm not sure of the official tally on money raised, I know it's over $150. So that makes it over $250 including the money I now have to donate. I suppose I may have to rethink my budget. Way to go guys! 35 days to go!

Day 17: BTRO ARRIVES!!!

So today I FINALLY get to see my best friend from home! As a result, I've decided to welcome her in a dress I owned back in high school. I'm pretty sure this dress is actually from Grade 10. It's one of the ones I'm still considering getting rid of once this challenge is done. I'll keep you posted on which ones I'll be offering up when the time comes! For now, I need to clean my house.

Day 15: Only 40 more to go...

Not much to say today. I think I'm going to spend the day cleaning, baking, and going for a swim later. Oh, and hanging out with my brother! He gets back from Van today and despite the fact that we live together I don't think we've actually sat down and hung out together in weeks. It may seem like something small but I think it'll be the highlight of my day.
It's amazing how many stories each of these dresses have. I now realize the reason why I don't throw these out. Throwing out a dress would almost feel like throwing out a story. I won't be telling all the stories behind the dresses but if you ever want to know feel free to ask.

Day 14: Happy Valentine's Day

Well, Feb. 14 is here. What do I plan on doing? Hanging out with Britt-Lynn, drinking tea, and possibly going to watch a movie. The funny thing is, I don't actually care that I'm single today. I guess it's the hopeless romantic side of me coming out but I look at Valentine's Day as a chance to remember how much love there is in the world. Maybe others view it as something commercial, but I look at it as a chance to really give notice to the fact that we can experience such an amazing thing. Maybe it is sentimental and mushy, but why not say it on a day like today.
Happy Valentine's Day!

Day 13: Reading Break Begins!

Day 1 of reading break and day 13 of the challenge. That's right, this challenge is not restricted to while school is on. Throughout the break you will see at least one dress that does not fit me properly, one of my fancy dresses (might as well dress up for Valentine's Day), and at least one going out dress. However, for today, it's one of my most comfortable dresses because I have a pyjama party to attend later. I plan on wearing this dress and a comfy robe.
I'd like to send out a big THANK YOU! to everyone who has agreed to donate. Donations are over $70. Looks like I'd better start budgeting to make my $100. Keep donating people, it's a good cause. Even if it's just $2 I'll take what I can get (and yes, a $2 donation has been made!)

Day 12: Nothing too fancy

Hello and... HAPPY READING BREAK! Today I'm supposed to have one class. It's really not easy convincing yourself to go to a class that you just wrote a midterm in and she posts all the notes. I may take the opportunity to start reading break early as a result. This morning I woke up, took a shower, remembered I didn't have a hair dryer and realized I want nothing more to go back to bed. My room is a disaster. Seriously, it's gross. I'm actually excited for the break so I can clean. Alright, I don't feel like rambling on any more. Happy reading break! I'll still be posting!

Day 11: NEED SWEATPANTS!

Okay, today I have every intention of being disgustingly long-winded. I need to rant. If you have any issues with this then please just take a quick look at the photo and at approximately how much money I've made and then you're free to go.

Money made: Approx. $60ish... which makes it $120 when you include what I'm putting in.

Today I'm probably feeling as anti-dresses as I was on sparkly dress day (Day 6). At least sparkly dress day has stories behind it. Today is going to be a lot of schoolwork. I have a physiology midterm (which I'm 90% sure I haven't studied nearly enough for) and a biomechanics lab due (which, despite approx. 4 hours of working on, 3 hours were from this morning... you do the math... I'm still not done and have waaaay too many questions about). Ergo, I'm tired, stressed, and want nothing more than a pair of sweat pants today. At first I was all about curling up in a ball and hiding from the world but instead I've decided I would settle for pants. Unfortunately for me, that will not be happening.

Yesterday I went to work in my fancy lacy ballet dress (Day 10) and tried to dress it down so that I wouldn't get talked to about being overly dressed up for work. Turns out my boss thought that was just how I dressed on a regular basis. Let's face it, now it kind of is although a dress that lacy is still overly fancy for everyday wear normally for me. Anyways, I ended up telling him about the challenge. He proceeded to do a few things:

1) Tell everyone in the office about it as they walked in the door and let each of them know how much they were pledging
2) Get me to work on getting the word out there using the Vikes Intramurals page as well as making a calendar, pledge sheet, and write up regarding what it was about to post in the office
3) Contacted the Martlet. Who knows if they'll actually get ahold of me because they haven't yet but yes, my little challenge may be published in the school paper. Hopefully that helps with fundraising.

So, my boss seems to have become my number one fan with this challenge. I find this hilarious and awesome at the same time. It actually puts a smile on my face and curbs my desire to wear sweat pants... okay, never mind, desire is back.
I'm off to go study more for this midterm (and pray I don't fail).

Day 10: The Ballet

I bet some of you are wondering why I'm dressed so fancy today. Well, later tonight Ben and Miranda are coming into town so I'll be going out with them and Kathryn to dinner and then the ballet (Moulin Rouge). However, I have zero time to come home and get dressed before then. I have to go to work today so I'm desperately trying to play down the fact that I'm in a fancy dress. Then, I have a midterm, after that I'm handing in an assignment then spending the rest of my day working on my biomechanics lab and studying in the library for my physiology midterm tomorrow. So yes, fancy dress all day. Oh, but one good part about all of this is that this dress has never been seen in public. It's one of the two dresses that I have NEVER worn out. I figured though that today would be the perfect occasion!
Oh, and for those of you who were wondering what I'd do for hands when I got to the double digits, I'm going water polo on you. In water polo, a fist represents 10. So starting today, my fist is up (16 might get interesting). Anyways, I'm running off or else I'll be late to work!

Day 9: Walking on Sunshine!

Alright, so here is yet another summer dress. It's one of my favourites but I decided to be strategic today. The weather network has been assuring me that it will get sunny today. It's currently cloudy and threatening to rain. HOWEVER, I'm being optimistic today! I've decided if I believe things are going to work out well today then they will. So all songs today are massively upbeat. I have a feeling that I'll be relying on the Glee soundtrack a fair bit.
Song of the Day: Halo/Walking on Sunshine - Glee Mashup
If anyone wants to know how I am going to feel all day, this song is pretty much it. Yes, I still have tons of work to do but I'm not letting it get me down today. I woke up early, studied, had my first cup of coffee. Life is good. Well, I should head off to school to study more before class!

Day 8: Back to the Daily Grind

Okay, so it's a Monday again. First week is done. Thank goodness. I'm kind of sad though. I miss having other people in my pictures. Normally I take these photos and post them first thing in the morning. However, since I'm the first one up I get to go back to feeling as though I'm being narcissistic again.
You'll probably see some interesting dresses coming up. Most of my dresses I wear during the summer. Today is exhibit A of that. I don't really have much to say besides the fact that I'm dreading this week. It's going to be a busy one. Well, I'm going to go grab myself some coffee.

Day 7: End of Tournament

I don't really have much to write here. The tournament is done and I miss my weekend already. However, there will be (hopefully) yet another mini one at the end of March being held at McKinnon at UVic. I have a feeling this dress challenge is still going on through that so it may get interesting yet again. I have yet to figure out my last day of this. If anyone gets bored and wants to figure it out please let me know. Otherwise, I'll figure it out another day. Right, so not much to write here.

Day 6: Sparkly Dress Day

So I gave a few of the girls on my water polo team the option of deciding a dress per day each. Instead they all chose the same dress to ensure I'd wear it. This led to sparkly dress day. I had played two water polo games that evening. One at 5:30, the next at 7:30. After playing, I have zero desire to wear a dress, let alone one that's so flashy. I walked out on deck in it, and the other UVic team that was in the water cheered. Nobody can say my team isn't supportive. The day became more interesting when Jessamyn dared me to walk up to the 30-something year old ref with my dress half unzipped and get him to do up the rest of it. If I did it I earned myself a homemade apple pie. Apparently pie has became our team's form of currency. So, I completed the dare. Then, I swore off challenges from other people for the rest of the weekend. However, this dress challenge has earned me quite a bit. Here is the scoreboard:

Days without dresses: 0
Money raised from other people: 20+
Money raised total: 40+
Pies won: 1

Yes, this is a solid scoreboard in my opinion. Anyways...

Day 5: Off to the races... Literally...

Okay, my thoughts on life today aren't too exciting. They pretty much consist of me asking what I need to pack next and what I need to do when I get on campus. So after possibly failing a midterm, learning that I did fail an assignment, and having job problems for the past two days, it is time to get away! I'm off to Seattle, Federal Way to be exact, to go compete in a water polo tournament. I have my dresses packed so although you will not be seeing something posted I'll give you a double header on Sunday. For now though, I need to dash.

Day 4: Life gets the best of me/ Pockets... Where are my pockets...

Okay, so I'm running off of less than 5 hours of sleep because I have a physiology lab assignment due today as well as a biomechanics midterm. After doing horrendously on my first lab, I put all of my effort into that and am pretty sure my biomechanics may take a turn for the worst if I don't use my three hour break properly. Ryan joked about how my bed just got more and more messy. This is still true. It's just getting worse. The crazier my life gets the messier my room gets. Thank goodness the photo doesn't show any other area of the room.
Despite the fact that my life feels like it's getting away from me a bit (there was a problem at work on top of everything else last night), one thought keeps coming to mind every morning when I leave the house to go to school... pockets, where are my damn pockets? This challenge bites. Why the hell don't more of my dresses have pockets?.... For the most part this whole dress thing has been fine, but yes, the pocket thought keeps coming to mind. One of my dresses has pockets. That's it. Even the single pocket that it has is tiny. This is perhaps the most annoying part of the challenge so far and I'm sure that I will continue to curse the lack of pockets in dresses.
Anyways, put your hand in your pocket at some point today, truly appreciate that it's there, and then wish me a little luck on my midterm because I may need it!
Oh, and remember that this is a bit of a fundraiser type thing if you want to get involved. See my post on Day 3 for details!
Until next time!

Day 3: Let's make this worthwhile!

Okay guys, so I was informed this morning that news of my blog has made it out to the maritimes. Weird but cool. So for anyone following, I've decided to do something good with this effort. Let's face it, getting paid in pies isn't that rewarding. I mean, yes, they'll taste delicious but all in all, I figure there's something better that I can do. Here's what I propose:
I want to make this a bit of a charity thing. I haven't given more than $5 to everything going on in Haiti. For every $ that you pledge to donate if I finish this, I will match that amount. This may have to have a cap because I am still on a student's budget after all but I haven't decided (I'm thinking either $100 or $150ish). However, if I don't finish, I will donate the amount that you pledge plus what I proposed to match it with. So whether it's $5 or $2, speak up people and let's do some good in the world! I figure I know most people who are following this so I should be able to collect from you myself. Keep me posted as to how much you want to pledge!

P.S. The tights in the picture, they are in fact because my legs are getting all stubbly and I don't feel like shaving this close to my water polo tournament! Oh, and there are three fingers up, it's just that self-photos SUCK!

Day 2: African Safari Dress

Yes, this dress reminds me of being on an African safari. I don't care if that's weird. The one major downside is that it doesn't have pockets. Out of 55 dresses, only one has pockets. I counted. That's actually kind of sad I suppose. I'm actually kind of tempted to start wearing my robe out of the house over top of these dresses. It's green, fluffy, and makes me look like I must weigh 10-20 lbs more than I do. Sounds perfect. However, I'm sure I'd be getting weirder looks if I did that than I do now.
Word is getting out about my little mission. I was mentioning it to one of my friends in class before our prof started talking and after I said, "55 dresses" three people turned around. I'm pretty sure that as much as people in my program will respect my competitive spirit, they'll think I'm crazy by the end of this.
I could definitely start messing with people a bit by doing this though. Yesterday I had one person ask me if I had to wear this even when I was working out. I told him no. From now on I plan on saying to everyone who asks this, "yes, and I have to wear it while I swim and everything." I'll be sarcastic but I'm actually curious as to whether anyone will believe me.
Well, until tomorrow!

Monday, February 1, 2010

So it's 8 AM and I had a ridiculously hard time sleeping last night. I found my first day dress though. This is a dress my Mom originally bought for me so that we could go watch Chicago when it was in Calgary last year during Christmas break. It has never been worn in Victoria because I've been scared I'm going to spill something on it. This seems like the perfect day to break it out. It looks like it'll be a cold and rainy day out though. Thank goodness my legs don't get cold easily. Pardon the picture, I haven't had my morning coffee. For the record, I feel incredibly narcissistic taking pictures of myself every day. I think at the end of these 55 days my camera will probably be taking a break of its own.
