Day 55: And I'm Spent!

So it's the final day. As I was reminded yesterday, I didn't actually put up many stories about the dresses. Believe me though, each one has its story. Whether it's a costume for a movie or musical, an outfit for watching an amazing performance, or just a memorable night out with friends, they each make me smile when I see them. To tell you everything that happened in these dresses would practically be a novel in itself (perhaps this may be a decent idea if I actually got some time to sit and write again). As it stands, my dresses and I will have to remain a bit of a mystery. So here's the final count:

Dresses worn: 55
Money raised: Over $350
People to thank: Countless numbers
Pies won: 2 (+ 1 loaf and 1 cake)
Memories from this: Priceless

So for the final time...

Day 54: Grad Dress Day

One day after today. All my fanciest dresses are done after today. I just wanted to thank everyone who donated and cheered me on along the way. I can't express enough how much this meant to me. I might have been able to do it without all of you but I wouldn't have wanted to. So here it is, grad dress day. I hope you all like my dress this morning. I put on some Michael Buble and danced around a bit. It's interesting how a piece of clothing can make you feel. This one just makes me feel like I'm in another world.

At the beginning of the challenge I might have cared that the camera wasn't lined up. Now, I could care less. Sorry but this is what you're stuck with. I'll do a better photo for my last two days! This dress was actually originally bought for a wedding rehearsal dinner over the summer however at the time I decided not to wear it at the last minute. Time for work!

Day 50: So Close!

I've had suggestions from people lately that I should do this again next year, advertise it better, and try to find a way to include other people. In all honesty, I'm tempted to do it. I mean, if I can still find a way to get the pies at the end that would be freaking phenomenal. Even if I don't though then this is still for a good cause. Next year I'll have to find something else to donate to. Wait and see I suppose! For now I'm off to school!

Day 49: The Next Day

I'm on my last week of wearing dresses to school! YAY! However this morning getting up only to throw on a dress was not ideal. I made a point of going for a walk around Gordon Head in it though despite it being annoyingly windy at times. That's okay. Good company definitely makes it better! However, I should now get back to doing some homework. It's 9:34 and I've hardly touched it. Sometimes it's fun when life gets in the way though! Oh and yes, I was waaay too lazy to retake the photo.

Day 48: Scrimmage-fest and Pubcrawl!

This photo is late getting up because yesterday pretty much consisted of being around water polo people and away from the computer ALL day! Scrimmage-fest went 100% fine. We had to improvise a bit with the out of bounds area but all-in-all it went amazingly well. I think next year we will definitely have to do a second round of it. By the end of the pubcrawl UBC and UVic had finally mixed! It took a lot of time and alcohol but it was made possible. This should definitely make next year all the more interesting.

I would like to officially announce that 1 week from today I'll be wearing my grad dress to work then to school immediately after. Don't expect fancy hair though. I don't think I'm capable of that even on the best of days. For now though you'll just have to wait it out. Tomorrow is scrimmage-fest, tonight is a party, life is good. Once again I woke up with a smile on my face.

9 days after today! WOOHOO! Now things will get interesting. I'm wearing a dress that I don't even normally wear out. I think I bought it over the summer when I would wear a bathing suit with it because it's definitely backless. That's what sweaters are there for though! Here's another picture!

10 dresses to go and I managed to find a green one for today! SCORE! This was pure luck because I debated wearing this one already about 5 or 6 times. Good thing I didn't huh? Alright well I don't have much to say. I still can't find one of my dresses and I have no idea which one it it. This may prove troublesome next week but for now I'm just going with the flow. Day 37: Need. More. Sleep!

I was hanging out with my friend last night and at 12:12 he started saying "wow. It's 12 minutes past your bedtime." I laughed. It's true. I do NOT stay up late these days. How late did I end up staying awake? At least until 2:30. It was much closer to his bedtime than to mine by the end of the evening. Oh, and before you jump to conclusions, NO he was not over until then. He dropped me off at about 12:15. Why am I telling this story? Perhaps to bemoan about my lack of sleep. More so to complain about why I'm indicating day 36 for the second day in a row. I didn't realize this until I went to save the photo on my computer. Mep. Such is life. Frick. Day 32: A Sunny Dress For A Sunny Mood!

Good morning sunshine to whoever is reading! I woke up this morning with about 5 hours of sleep and had to finish a biomechanics lab. So, I got started on it and about an hour in (around 5 AM) I realized that I don't know how to do a chunk of it. Although this should greatly upset me for some reason I stayed calm and I just continued to be in a good mood. I've decided sleep is awesome. Now, although I still have a massive chunk of the lab to do, am still confused by part of it, and have 3 hours of class before my lab leaving about 3.5 hours to work on it if I make use of every minute, I am still in a good mood. I know that this isn't normal. Oh well! I like it while it lasts! Anyways I'm off to the library to try to finish this off!

Today I'm balancing work, water polo business, school, a social life, and finishing up a lab report. This semester I've really realized just how busy I allow myself to be. It's weird though because for as much as I would love to cut things out of my schedule I don't think I could decide if I wanted to. I guess what I want to say on here is that if anyone who is reading this today has given me advice on how to manage my life this past month, thanks.

Day 30: Another Tuesday Morning

I love Tuesdays now. They give me an excuse to wear the dresses that aren't my favourites. Normally I have tennis starting at 2:30 but because I have class until then I get a 3 hour time slot of not wearing dresses. However, this dress I managed to alter a bit (bring it in and shorten it) so now I'm actually debating keeping it at the end of everything. Although, I really do need to take out my sewing machine again and finally figure out how to thread it. I did all the alterations to this by using strategically placed safety pins. NEVER underestimate a well-placed safety pin.

Day 28: Over Halfway Done!!!

That's right, I'm now on the middle day of the challenge! However, I realized that I have a ton of dresses that I normally go out dancing in that I haven't worn yet. So, over the next 4 weeks, you may see a good chunk of them on some weird days. I figure I'll dedicate both Saturday and Sunday to wearing them. Some of them you may recognize because I've worn some out already but they have not been documented. Exhibit A is my dress for today. I actually wore this out to go see Rural Alberta Advantage but because it isn't documented it doesn't count. Such a bummer right now. I'm out of red dresses which sucks but I figure my nails are at least painted red. Why? Because it's GAME DAY!!! Anyways, I'm off to grab some breakfast then go cheer on the Canadian team along with the rest of the country. I decided today that if New Year's Eve was a dress, it would be this one in my closet. It's just so over the top with polka dots and sparkles that I can't help but smile when I look at it. So although it's not my favourite, I decided that it reminds me of New Year's Eve for some reason. No, I have not worn it during at December 31 celebrations. Just more of my strange logic I suppose!

Day 23: Last Week from Hell... Hopefully...

I woke up this morning freezing. Turns out our nice weather has disappeared for the time being. However, if any of you are like me you know this may be a blessing in disguise. As soon as it's nice out I have a tendency of taking a life's too short to spend life inside perspective. Therefore, less gets done and I just end up more stressed than usual. On the flipside, I am wearing dresses every day and am almost out of sweater dresses. I continue to layer with my other sweaters but it's hard to do that with some dresses. I'm busting out the red today to show some support for the big game. Canada vs. USA. This should definitely be an intense one. Might be an interesting day as well given the fact that I may be watching it with a group of guys from high school that I've never really hung out with. How did that come about? Well, I have nobody else to watch the game with because everyone is over on the mainland and I could either watch it at home and do homework at intermissions or get some sun and watch the game with other people. I'm assuming I'm not the only one who has changed since high school. This could be an interesting and fun time. Worst case scenario I'm bored by their company and I'm watching a solid game of hockey anyways. Either way, life will be good on the last day of reading break!

Regardless, I figured I would dress all animal-like for heading out. Perhaps someone will see part of the dress and think that I'm a zebra... Oh goodness, I really do need my first cup of coffee. What I'm writing sounds ridiculous... Just thought I would keep you all posted, although I'm not sure of the official tally on money raised, I know it's over $150. He gets back from Van today and despite the fact that we live together I don't think we've actually sat down and hung out together in weeks. It may seem like something small but I think it'll be the highlight of my day.
It's amazing how many stories each of these dresses have. I now realize the reason why I don't throw these out. Throwing out a dress would almost feel like throwing out a story. I won't be telling all the stories behind the dresses but if you ever want to know feel free to ask.

Well, Feb. 14 is here. What do I plan on doing? Hanging out with Britt-Lynn, drinking tea, and possibly going to watch a movie. The funny thing is, I don't actually care that I'm single today. I guess it's the hopeless romantic side of me coming out but I look at Valentine's Day as a chance to remember how much love there is in the world. Maybe others view it as something commercial, but I look at it as a chance to really give notice to the fact that we can experience such an amazing thing. Maybe it is sentimental and mushy, but why not say it on a day like today.

Throughout the break you will see at least one dress that does not fit me properly, one of my fancy dresses (might as well dress up for Valentine's Day), and at least one going out dress. However, for today, it's one of my most comfortable dresses because I have a pyjama party to attend later. I plan on wearing this dress and a comfy robe.

Hello and... HAPPY READING BREAK! Today I'm supposed to have one class. It's really not easy convincing yourself to go to a class that you just wrote a midterm in and she posts all the notes. I may take the opportunity to start reading break early as a result. This morning I woke up, took a shower, remembered I didn't have a hair dryer and realized I want nothing more to go back to bed. Day 11: NEED SWEATPANTS!

Okay, today I have every intention of being disgustingly long-winded. I need to rant. If you have any issues with this then please just take a quick look at the photo and at approximately how much money I've made and then you're free to go.

Money made: Approx. $60ish... which makes it $120 when you include what I'm putting in.

Today I'm probably feeling as anti-dresses as I was on sparkly dress day (Day 6). At least sparkly dress day has stories behind it. Today is going to be a lot of schoolwork. I have a physiology midterm (which I'm 90% sure I haven't studied nearly enough for) and a biomechanics lab due (which, despite approx. 4 hours of working on, 3 hours were from this morning... you do the math... I'm still not done and have waaaay too many questions about). Ergo, I'm tired, stressed, and want nothing more than a pair of sweat pants today. At first I was all about curling up in a ball and hiding from the world but instead I've decided I would settle for pants. Unfortunately for me, that will not be happening.

Yesterday I went to work in my fancy lacy ballet dress (Day 10) and tried to dress it down so that I wouldn't get talked to about being overly dressed up for work. Turns out my boss thought that was just how I dressed on a regular basis. Let's face it, now it kind of is although a dress that lacy is still overly fancy for everyday wear normally for me. Anyways, I ended up telling him about the challenge. He proceeded to do a few things:

1) Tell everyone in the office about it as they walked in the door and let each of them know how much they were pledging
2) Get me to work on getting the word out there using the Vikes Intramurals page as well as making a calendar, pledge sheet, and write up regarding what it was about to post in the office
3) Contacted the Martlet. Who knows if they'll actually get ahold of me because they haven't yet but yes, my little challenge may be published in the school paper. Hopefully that helps with fundraising.

So, my boss seems to have become my number one fan with this challenge. I find this hilarious and awesome at the same time. It actually puts a smile on my face and curbs my desire to wear sweat pants... okay, never mind, desire is back.
I'm off to go study more for this midterm (and pray I don't fail).

Day 10: The Ballet

I bet some of you are wondering why I'm dressed so fancy today. Well, later tonight Ben and Miranda are coming into town so I'll be going out with them and Kathryn to dinner and then the ballet (Moulin Rouge). However, I have zero time to come home and get dressed before then. I have to go to work today so I'm desperately trying to play down the fact that I'm in a fancy dress. Then, I have a midterm, after that I'm handing in an assignment then spending the rest of my day working on my biomechanics lab and studying in the library for my physiology midterm tomorrow. So yes, fancy dress all day. Oh, but one good part about all of this is that this dress has never been seen in public. It's one of the two dresses that I have NEVER worn out. I figured though that today would be the perfect occasion!
Oh, and for those of you who were wondering what I'd do for hands when I got to the double digits, I'm going water polo on you. In water polo, a fist represents 10. So starting today, my fist is up (16 might get interesting). Anyways, I'm running off or else I'll be late to work!

Day 9: Walking on Sunshine!

Alright, so here is yet another summer dress. It's one of my favourites but I decided to be strategic today. The weather network has been assuring me that it will get sunny today. It's currently cloudy and threatening to rain. HOWEVER, I'm being optimistic today! I've decided if I believe things are going to work out well today then they will. So all songs today are massively upbeat. I have a feeling that I'll be relying on the Glee soundtrack a fair bit.
Song of the Day: Halo/Walking on Sunshine - Glee Mashup
If anyone wants to know how I am going to feel all day, this song is pretty much it. Yes, I still have tons of work to do but I'm not letting it get me down today. I woke up early, studied, had my first cup of coffee. Life is good. Well, I should head off to school to study more before class!
